"I build the furniture out of old barns and house from the Shenandoah Valley."

Kenn Nilsen of Shenandoah Second Wind is a retired, ordained Lutheran minister. He and his wife Dee live in the beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He received his love of woodworking at a very early age. In his teens he was dismantling old barns on Long Island, and helped build a summer home with the materials near Hudson, NY. He made tables and chairs from some of the material.

Then was born the idea of recycling old, unwanted buildings into items of beauty and utility. Today Kenn continues to upcycle the wood from old structures and creates totally new pieces that carry on the history. The look and feel of old wood is almost spiritual. The nail holes and other “imperfections” tell the story of a past life, and lives. Kenn invites you to see them as marks of honor.
