Shaker Style Fern Stand

This Shaker Style Fern Stand is made from an oak beam recovered from a barn near Bel Gravia, VA. Originally these were made to support candle sticks, but modern homes delight in using them to display ferns or other larger potted plants. The joinery of the legs utilizes the powerful dovetail, which prevents the legs from pulling apart from the stem. No stain is used: the varnish finish is applied over the natural wood. Also available in cherry, antique yellow pine, wormy chestnut and oak if a custom piece is desired. $150

The Shakers, a religious sect which had their heyday in the 19th century, were known for exquisite furniture, made simply but strong, using quality woods such as maple and cherry.
